The Samuel R Guggenheim museum celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2009. To mark that milestone it is running a selection of special exhibitions, beginning with The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989.
The show, which opened at the end of January at the Frank Lloyd Wright landmark building on 5th Avenue, focuses on how Asian art and philosophies influenced American artistic practices between the late 19th and the late 20th centuries.
The exhibition features more than 260 works by 114 American and Asian-American artists.
The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860-1989 is at the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum until 19 April 2009. www.guggenheim.com
