Icelandic budget airline Iceland Express has announced plans to begin flights from Reykjavik’s Keflavik International Airport to New York City’s Newark International Airport.
The four-times per week service is scheduled to begin in June 2010 and will be operated by a Boeing 757 aircraft.
The airline already offers flights from London Gatwick to Reykjavik starting at $110 one-way including taxes.
Matthias Imsland, Iceland Express CEO, said: ‘This is an extremely exciting development for us. In the past, a flight to New York via Iceland was one of the cheapest ways to visit the Big Apple. By bringing back this option, we hope to entice more consumers to choose Iceland Express, whether they want to discover the glacial beauty and vibrant culture of Iceland, or take a low-cost trip to New York.’
Bookings on the Reykjavik to New York flights can be made from early October.
